Privacy policy

Witnessed is built local-first. Your challenges, tasks, entries, notes, and photos live in a database on your phone. The app works with no account and no network connection, and we operate no server that receives your data.
What the app stores, and where
- Challenge data — your challenges, daily entries, streaks, and reminder times are stored on your device only.
- Progress photos — saved to the app's private storage on your device. They are never uploaded, never synced, and never included in anything the app sends. There is no code path that transmits them.
- Witness contacts — if you name a witness, their name and phone number are stored on your device only. Texts to your witness are drafted into your phone's own messaging app, and you decide whether to send them. We never message anyone on your behalf.
Health data
With your permission, the app reads workouts, hydration, weight, sleep, and steps from Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS) to check tasks off for you. Health records are read on your device, evaluated on your device, and discarded. What the app stores is the result: a checkmark, and a record identifier used to avoid counting the same workout twice. Raw health data is never stored, never transmitted, never used for advertising, and never shown in notifications or widgets.
What we collect about you
Nothing. The app has no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting that leaves your device, and no accounts. We cannot see your data because it never reaches us.
If that ever changes
Planned social features (sharing your day's completion count with a friend you choose) will be strictly opt-in, off by default, and limited to counts and task labels you explicitly approve — never health data, never photos. This policy will be updated before any such feature ships.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the app deletes everything, because everything is on your device.
